That is a wrap

Well ladies and gentlemen the adventure in LaLa land has come to an end. They describe pilot season as feast or famine and well our last three weeks unfortunately were famine. So it made the most sense to call at quits for this year and head home. But luckily with some prayer and some great work by her agency and manager the day before we left she got a general meeting with Disney! It went great they remembered her from all her taped auditions! They said it was as if they had watched her grow up on tape. They remembered her first taped audition from when she was 11! They said they are going to keep her in mind for future projects so for Syd that was made the entire trip an winning experience.

I know it has been a while

I've been bad with keeping up blog wise, sorry! Sydnei has been getting auditions but ever since I mentioned the first one and she didn't get and I didn't mention the How to Rock audition and she booked it I have been hesitant to mention them all. It's more fun to talk about what she gets then explaining what she doesn't. She has had a couple of commercial auditions a couple print and one pilot and we are hoping for more. If she gets anything I will definitely post it so no worries on missing out on any good news. We haven't been doing as much beach going and shopping as when we first got here. Syd is busy with school, acting class and auditions and unfortunately I have been getting migraines and not feeling well fairly often. That being said today we went to a live taping of auditions for So You Think You Can Dance! It was really fun and we got really into it booing and cheering for our favorites. Also I realized we drive by a lot of cool stuff daily that we don't usually pay attention to but finally decided to takes pictures of, so enjoy! The crazy silver building is the Walt Disney Concert Hall. The rest should be pretty self explanatory! And oh yah GO HEELS so proud we took down the Dookies!

First Job

Yesterday Sydnei had her first job on Nickelodeons How to Rock. The episode is called How to Rock a Uniform so unfortunately she didn't get to wear the super cute clothes the show is known for. But her scene was with the main character in the show She was so sweet (along with all the others) when she saw Sydnei she said they picked the cutest girl to be a "non perf" and that she could totally be a "perf". A perf being the "cool" girls in the show. During one take of the scene she throw a purse and hits Sydnei. The purse throwing was all part of the scene the hitting Sydnei part was not oops. But all is well that ends well, Sydnei tweeted about it and now she follows Sydnei on twitter #winning. Those of you not so familiar with the importance of social networking to a teenager, thats epic! Sydnei also got her own introduction the the whole crew right before they started taping and according to her manager that never happens! So all in all after that can't no one tell her nothing (yes that's my sass talk) We are hoping there will be more jobs and fun stories to come. Stay tuned. Oh and she got her own dressing room!

How to Rock

It's been a few days but good news to report! Sydnei booked a guest spot on Nickelodeon's "How to Rock! She films on Tuesday we will let you know when the episode airs! Woo hoo God is good. Praying the jobs keep coming.

Settling Down

It's been a little bit since the last post. We have been trying to get things done like school and housing. Sydnei is finally in her school flow with lots of work and we have settled in to our place. We love where we are living they do lots of stuff for kids in the acting biz. The first seminar we went to was with Sydnei's agent and an acting coach. While we were there another kid Sydnei's agent represents came in and turns out he was in Joyful Noise. We haven't seen it yet but if you have he is the autistic kid. Today was a day of sit around and wait. Sydnei had 2 auditions both of which we had to wait almost an hour before she went in. But Sydnei did her thing so it's in the Lord's hand at this point. We haven't really been on any adventures lately but rest asure the next one will be documented!

Like sand through the hour glass..

Today we got to go to tour and eat lunch at NBC. We went with a friend of our friends that we are staying with. When we got to his office he had a channel on his TV that was a live feed of the rehearsals for Days of our lives. It was pretty entertaining to say the least. Then we headed to lunch where we saw Gavin Rossdale. Of course Sydnei had no clue who he was but I thought it was cool. For those like Sydnei who also have no idea who he is, he is the lead singer of the band Bush and probably more well known as Gwen Stefani's husband. He was eating so I didn't take a picture, I feel that would have been awkward. After that we got to see where they tape Days of Our Lives, Access Hollywood and Jay Leno! I took a few pics so take a look.

Hats, food and fun

We had a wonderful evening at the Galleria and the Americana In Glendale! Its the cutest place with a trolly you can ride through it. I tried on hats we both got a couple cute and inexpensive items and of course we had food! Syd ate like a bird I ate like a horse as usual. Pics below.

Fun in the sun

Went running on the beach today. Well Sydnei went running I ran for about 2 mins and decided walking was much more my style. We found a super cool house while we were out there. Here's a quick video and a picture of the house.

Getting Started

This time change is an adjustment so Im trying to adjust my post schedule so my east coasters aren't reading it at midnight :). Yesterday was a very busy day. We had a lot to do but managed to get it all done. First we had to get a work permit for Sydnei, then we went on a journey to find target. That was interesting, we asked "Siri" for directions (for those who aren't up on iphone technology its the iphone 4s voice application) and she was sending us on a wild goose chase but we finally found it. Then we headed off to her first audition. It was in Hollywood so the drive in was very cool. We had some serious issues once we got to the street the building was on. We could not find it to save our lives and driving in circles wasn't helping, so I finally just pulled over, then we looked up and found it across the street. We had to run across six lanes of traffic and I dropped my phone in the middle of street as a school bus was coming and no thats not a joke. Not to mention it was raining. Luckily I grabbed it before I got hit. The audition went well short sweet and to the point. Then Sydnei started her acting classes with Richard Brander. We only passed it once before we made it there. Today we found out Sydnei got an "avail" for her audition which means the casting director choose her to submit to the client and they wanted to make sure she was available to shoot! Today we also had to get her paperwork in order to enroll her in school after we got that done we headed to her talent agency Osbrink. She had some time to catch up with everyone there and they were all very excited to see her. We are praying that she gets the part and once we enroll her in school tomorrow we will be all done with the administrative part of the trip and can get to doing all the fun stuff!!!

We Made It

We finally made it and it was a full day with a lot of time on airplanes. We had our first celeb sighting on or plane from Dallas to LAX! Jessica Biel, unfortunately I was to busy trying to get Sydnei and I seats together to take a picture! Once we got settled at our friends home we found the crucial spots, In & Out burger and Starbucks! We also saw NBC, Warner Brothers, Disney, and universal studios. Needless to say Sydnei is in actress heaven. Tomorrow we will have to get a work permit, get enrolled in school and get to an audition, so it's going to be a busy day.

Just before midnight

So it's just before midnight and it has been a very long day. I think over the course of this week including today I have packed, unpacked and repacked about 50 times. But I believe I have finally succeded in having a checked bag under 50llbs. On a much more exciting note we found out that Sydnei will have her first audition on Monday. She recieved a straight to call backs nod which means she wasn't even at the first audition and got a call back. Needless to say she is very excited and proud of herself! It's a print job for Bratz dolls and it sounds like she would be great. Of course we will just have to see what God has planned. First step is making it to LA in the morning. 5:30am is quickly approaching so Im going to have to finsih watching Modern Family and Americian Idol on DVR asap! Tomorrow I'll have another post about our first official day in LALA land!

The adventure is set to begin

For the very few people who followed my blog before its been a while and my page has completely changed! That being said I will have way more things to talk about this time around. Starting with the reason for this adventure. My youngest sister Sydnei has been into acting for a while now and she is finally hitting LA to try and catch her big break. Since she is only 15 she can't go by herself so I sacrificially volunteered myself to accompany her on her 2 month journey for Pilot Season! We leave on Sunday and are looking forward to lots of fun experiences all of which will be captured here. So stayed tuned because two sassy sisters from Kansas/North Carolina in Los Angeles is sure to be entertaining.
